Our Latest Adventures- 2/14 Valentine's Day

Image
Although the day was a bit cloudy, the weather failed to dampen our day! We started by taking some cutesy pictures in the snow, Dailen's sister, Brianna, took our photos. She is taking some photographing classes and it was so fun! We then headed to do some bowling: Dailen absolutely CREAMED me the first game. Seriously, he got FIVE strikes! And THREE in a row- he got a turkey?? Seriously, we've bowled before but never like this, he was hitting strikes or spares the majority of the time. It was a new side to this man I've been married to for five years! The second game, however, I finally had warmed up (apparently) and Dailen's streak suddenly faded. I ended up winning this one, but I'm still not sure quite how after such a crazy first game.  We also just had to order some of Jack and Jill's fries and root beer floats. How could we not dip back into a childhood taste?  After bowling, we pulled out a die. We decided to roll it 20 times and each time we came to a c...

Our Latest Adventures - December 16

Image
This year Dailen's family has decided to ditch the traditional Christmas of many presents under the tree and opted instead for fewer presents and more memories. We've been going on adventures! The latest outing we embarked on was to the Loveland Living Aquarium for their Lantern Festival!  We wandered through multitudes of lit-up animals, and let me tell you, it was krill (cool)! It was a one in a krillion experience! They had everything from an octopus to beloved emperor penguins to butterflies, puffer fishes, and flamingos. Dailen engaged in a game that tested his reaction times and scored for highest among our family. We popped bubbles blowing out into the cold night air.  It was a magical festival and a night full of fun for us. When our toes got numb, we returned home to hot cocoa and to watch the movie Klaus, another yearly tradition. Speaking of which, we'd love to hear your favorite Christmas traditions and movies! We've caught the flu and so some Christmas movi...

WHEN, WHERE, HOW? Answering other questions

Image
The WHEN: We are approved and ready to adopt anytime! If you are ready today, we can jump on a plane or in our car and come now. We are more than ready! The WHERE: We are approved for anywhere in the United States. We are located in Utah but would love to work with anyone from anywhere in the US. We can come to you and work with people in your state.  The HOW:  We are working with Utah Adoption Specialists, our caseworker is Krystal L. She's AMAZING! She helps a lot with the how, and we also have an attorney we are ready to work with once we match. They both can help with figuring out the exact details, including if you need help while pregnant (whether that's financial, emotional, physical, or something else). They have a wealth of resources and want what's best for YOU and help things work seamlessly.

The WHO

Image
Who in the world are we? Sometimes we ask ourselves that, too, haha! Dailen is a 30 year old chess-loving, go-getter, teaser (but also best defender) of sisters, salsa eating, violin playing man! He was born and raised in Utah, the oldest of two sisters. He loves adventures, like going to  Havasupai Falls, sleeping in the backyard in a hammock in FREEZING weather (he does that one by himself, Mayli prefers her warm bed, thank you very much!), hiking to the top of Timpanogos, playing some mini golf, dancing with the dog, and reading books to enter other worlds of adventure. He lived in Mexico for two years even on a grand adventure and speaks Spanish! He won a chili eating contest there against natives... but then was puking his guts up the rest of the day.  He is just about done completing a degree in Family Science, but if we were to tell you the truth, his mind is wired for engineering. There just might be another degree down the road for him. He is great at building, ...

Our WHY

Image
Ever since we planned on marriage, we both excitedly thought about children. How many? Girls? Boys? (As if we could choose haha!) Names? A year into our marriage, we both felt like it was time to start our family. However, life had different plans. First, for nearly a year, we experienced fertility issues. We were able to luckily overcome those, after three early miscarriages. Then, we finally  had a pregnancy that stayed!  "You are the news I celebrated That little blue line exclamation Got me dancing in my bare feet And I couldn't help but sing!"  -JJ Heller      We were so happy! Until, we weren't. Suddenly Mayli couldn't keep anything down. She couldn't make it upstairs without feeling faint and dizzy. Everyday became struggle for life. She lost 15 lbs in less than a month. She was diagnosed with hyperemesis gravidarum. In addition to that, her depression and anxiety went to astronomical levels, even after an increase of medication. ...
