Who in the world are we? Sometimes we ask ourselves that, too, haha!
Dailen is a 30 year old chess-loving, go-getter, teaser (but also best defender) of sisters, salsa eating, violin playing man! He was born and raised in Utah, the oldest of two sisters. He loves adventures, like going to Havasupai Falls, sleeping in the backyard in a hammock in FREEZING weather (he does that one by himself, Mayli prefers her warm bed, thank you very much!), hiking to the top of Timpanogos, playing some mini golf, dancing with the dog, and reading books to enter other worlds of adventure. He lived in Mexico for two years even on a grand adventure and speaks Spanish! He won a chili eating contest there against natives... but then was puking his guts up the rest of the day.
He is just about done completing a degree in Family Science, but if we were to tell you the truth, his mind is wired for engineering. There just might be another degree down the road for him. He is great at building, fixing, creating, and troubleshooting. In fact, he runs his own lawn maintenance business and somehow always knows how to fix the machines that break. His precision with lawn care has earned him a top spot in his client's minds and they also enjoy a quick long chat with him (sometimes for over an hour, they adore him).
He loves movies, especially superhero ones (he jokingly has started his own Batman church, ask if you can join). Don't be surprised if he dons an apron and whips up a mouth-watering, savory meal. Somehow he bakes perfectly on the first try too, no burnt offerings here. The best part about Dailen is his HUGE heart. He cares for others, doesn't give up on them, and is excellent at one on one connection.
Mayli is 26 (pinky promise, even if she gets pegged as 15). She is the 3rd of 8 children and came bounding into this world with a diaper bag and ready to watch the other babies. Lucky for her, her mom kept having babies, and Mayli may have hogged the time with the little ones and quickly became the second mother and the favorite (okay we don't know who the favorite is for real... But we're writing this blog so we can say what we want, her siblings aren't here to say otherwise). She started babysitting for other families around age 11 and hasn't stopped since then! She is going into Family Science and loves people, especially children.
She has two little temptations- okay it's HUGE and they are dark chocolate and ice cream! Here is where you can cry, though. She is lactose intolerant so her ice cream intake is severely hindered. It's very tragic. She also can't survive without her breakfast (how does Dailen go without sometimes? It just seems so wrong.). She sometimes can get fired up during games, and enjoys Terraforming Mars, Mario Party, Settlers of Catan, Skull King, and more. Fun fact, she loves playing games, but hates learning new ones (a little contradictory, we suppose). She loves the outdoors, from walks to hammocking to soccer to camping. She loves little art projects, which means sometimes our table is full of paints and papers and markers.
Mayli is always singing, sometimes the real words and sometimes replacing words with songs about the dog. She loves Christmas and has at least three Christmas shirts. She loves zumba, writing in her journal, and finding little quotes that speak to her soul. One thing you might notice about Mayli is that she never stops giving. She loves a leaving a little sneaky present anonymously on people's doorsteps, stepping up to volunteer to work with the teenagers, or babysitting her niece. Her greatest hope is for others to feel loved.
We both are Christians (members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints). We believe in kindness, working hard, trying our best, treating children as people too, love, listening to boundaries, clear communication, and listening. We strive to make our home a place of acceptance, where people can be their selves and feel safe, loved, and accepted. We value learning and striving to become better each day, while being okay with and learning from mistakes. We also joke around a lot and have a lot of fun adventures!
Anyway, that's a little bit about us, we'd love to get to know YOU! We love meeting others and especially would love to see if we're a match for adoption!
P.S. All the rest of our family members are SUPER EXCITED that we are pursuing adoption. They are very open as well and if you want to get to know them a little bit too, I'm sure they'd love that!
