Our WHY
Ever since we planned on marriage, we both excitedly thought about children. How many? Girls? Boys? (As if we could choose haha!) Names? A year into our marriage, we both felt like it was time to start our family. However, life had different plans. First, for nearly a year, we experienced fertility issues. We were able to luckily overcome those, after three early miscarriages. Then, we finally had a pregnancy that stayed!
"You are the news I celebrated
That little blue line exclamation
Got me dancing in my bare feet
And I couldn't help but sing!"
-JJ Heller
We were so happy! Until, we weren't. Suddenly Mayli couldn't keep anything down. She couldn't make it upstairs without feeling faint and dizzy. Everyday became struggle for life. She lost 15 lbs in less than a month. She was diagnosed with hyperemesis gravidarum. In addition to that, her depression and anxiety went to astronomical levels, even after an increase of medication. Soon she had a ng tube (a tube that entered through her nostril and fed all the way down into her intestine) to get some nutrients in her. Even with all this, her condition worsened. The baby's growth slowed and eventually they lost her at 15 weeks. Luckily we did not lose Mayli.
"And I would give anything
To hold you in my arms
But while you're away from me
I'll hold you in my heart
You're forever in my heart"
-JJ Heller
The chances of a similar pregnancy are unfortunately pretty high. Since we don't want to risk Mayli's or another baby's life, we are electing to proceed through adoption. There will always be a part of our hearts missing because of that loss.
However, that being said, we do still want to fill our homes with the laughter and tiny feet pattering of children. We long to hear little voices singing softly, to chase silly goobers around the yard, and to cover up boo-boos with a band-aid and a kiss. We want to provide a safe, nurturing home to children and be their person to help them as they learn and grow. We would love, love, LOVE to add to our little family.
